Apple’s M-series laptops are marvels in terms of battery life and performance, in part thanks to the integration of the memory onto the main board, in Apple’s “unified memory” architecture. This puts the memory close to the CPU and GPU, and allows it to work at much higher speeds. One could argue (and Apple certainly would) that modular RAM and storage are holding things back.
